Public Encounters

New Class for 2023!

Indy Arm’s is proud to present our “Encounters” series of classes.  Each Encounters class focused on the application of firearm and related skills to potential real world situations.  These classes can be taken in any order while students are also taking the Tactical Handgun sequence (I, II, and III).  Currently these classes include Low-Light Encounters, Home Encounters, and Public Encounters. 

This 4-hour class is a great introduction to real life public use of force encounters including seated, within a vehicle, and urban spaces.  Understanding the challenges of defending and communicating in a high stress public environments is key to surviving potential encounters and the aftermath that will likely follow.  Through creating an adaptable personal self-defense plans you will be ready to survive a defensive incident. This class will cover, legal use of force and stand your ground laws, situational awareness in public spaces, use of cover and concealment, seated tactics, reloading and malfunctions, and defending from a vehicle.

The class will consist of about 2.5 hours of classroom and 1.5 hours of live fire training on the range.

Course Goal: To provide information regarding the use of force in self-defense in situations outside of the home.  Students should start to develop skills for successfully defending themselves with in public settings.

Lessons

  1. Legal framework of self-defense and stand your ground laws
  2. Creating self-defense plans for likely scenarios
  3. Using situational awareness to adapt self-defense plans
  4. Use of cover and movement
  5. Seated and vehicle based techniques

Prerequisites: Students taking Home Encounters should have an understanding of simple marksmanship, and the basic operation of their handgun. Individuals taking this class should have the personal handgun that they intend to use/carry for vehicle and/or home defense, along with a suitable outside-or inside-the-waistband holster or carry purse with a dedicated department for firearms carry. Indy Arms Basic Defensive Handgun, and/or USCCA Concealed Carry Handgun are acceptable prerequisites, as are most classes from recognized shooting schools. Experienced shooters who have not taken any formal classes should contact Indy Arms to make arrangements to drop by for a brief skills checkout. Course Completion: Students will receive an Indy Arms Company certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.

NOTES:

  • Students under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult (ask about a youth discount for training classes)
  • Students arriving more than 10 minutes after the designated start time may not be allowed into class and will need to reschedule

***Please arrive 15- 20 minutes early to complete the necessary check in process before any training class. This will give us time to verify your range waiver at the counter. This is also the time to buy ammo, holster, hearing and/ or eye protection or anything else you will need for the class. Classes start promptly and we don’t want you to miss anything.***
